Stock adjustments

Writing stock up or down with a reason code and a permanent audit entry.

An adjustment sets a product's quantity in a store to a new figure. You enter the number it should be, not the difference — the system works out the change from the current count.

A reason is mandatory

An adjustment cannot be saved without a reason, and an optional note can be added alongside it. Both are stored.

What gets recorded

Every adjustment writes two records:

  • An adjustment holding the store, product, staff member, reason, the change, the quantity before and after, and any note
  • An activity entry so the change appears in the product's history alongside sales and transfers

Validation

Quantities must be whole numbers. A decimal or a piece of text is rejected with a message naming the item rather than being quietly written into the database — a fractional quantity would have corrupted stock valuation.

Permissions

Adjusting stock requires inventory.adjust, held by supervisors and admins by default.
