Applying discount codes at the counter
Entering a promo code on a sale, what it can discount and why one may be refused.
A discount code has a code, a label, a type and a value. Two types are supported:
| Type | Value |
|---|---|
| percent | A percentage, capped at 100 |
| fixed | A cash amount off |
A percentage above 100 is rejected outright — a code cannot pay the customer.
Limits
- Expiry — a date after which the code stops working
- Maximum uses — a cap on total redemptions
- Active — a switch to turn a code off without deleting it
Codes record who created them, so a discount that should not exist is traceable.
Applying one
Applying a discount at the counter requires the pos.discount permission — supervisor and above by default.
