Applying discount codes at the counter

Entering a promo code on a sale, what it can discount and why one may be refused.

A discount code has a code, a label, a type and a value. Two types are supported:

TypeValue
percentA percentage, capped at 100
fixedA cash amount off

A percentage above 100 is rejected outright — a code cannot pay the customer.

Limits

  • Expiry — a date after which the code stops working
  • Maximum uses — a cap on total redemptions
  • Active — a switch to turn a code off without deleting it

Codes record who created them, so a discount that should not exist is traceable.

Applying one

Applying a discount at the counter requires the pos.discount permission — supervisor and above by default.
