COGS report
Cost of goods sold and gross margin for a period, and how it is calculated.
The COGS tab is not shown to ordinary companies today. For cost and margin by category, use Sales by category in Standard reports, which reports revenue, cost, margin and margin % over the same periods. The rest of this page describes the COGS view where it is available.
The COGS report shows cost of goods sold for a period, as the quantity sold multiplied by the product's cost, summed across the period. Only completed sales are counted.
The figure is joined to the product record live, not to a cost captured at the time of sale. Change a product's cost today and last quarter's COGS moves with it. If you need a period figure to stay put, export it.
Periods
Today, this week (the default), this month, or a custom date range. A custom range interprets your dates as local midnight in your company's timezone, so the window is exactly the days you asked for.
Scope
The report can cover a single store or every active store in the company.
A product with no recorded cost contributes zero to COGS, which makes margin look better than it is. If the figures look too good, check that costs are populated — see Cost, margin and valuation.
