Pickup and handover

Sign at drop-off, at pickup or both — on a Wacom Intuos pen tablet, a touch screen or a mouse — and what handover records.

What handover records

  • A post-repair checklist, the counterpart to the condition checklist taken at intake
  • A pickup note
  • An estimated pickup date set earlier in the job
  • The move to Collected, recorded in the ticket history with the staff member who made it

Signing at pickup

Pressing Collect & Pay on a ready ticket opens a Hand it back modal: the work completed, the parts fitted and your warranty terms, a typed Collected by name field, and a signature pad.

Mouse, touch screen or pen tablet

The pad is a plain canvas built on Pointer Events, so it takes a mouse, a touch screen or a pen tablet — a Wacom Intuos over USB shows up as a pen with real pressure, no driver SDK or setup needed. Sign full screen makes the whole tablet surface the signing area, since an Intuos maps its active area to the entire screen.

Signing at drop-off

A signature can also be taken when the device comes in, not only when it goes back. It is captured in two places: the intake wizard's Review & Confirm step carries a Drop-off signature block — a Signed by name field, prefilled from the customer's own name, and the same signature pad — under the tick for Customer has been shown the repair notice. And when a quoted job is later accepted (Accept the job, moving it from quoted to received), the status modal shows the same block.

It attests to the same three things either way: the ACL repair notice (reg 91), the condition record taken at intake, and the price agreed. Like the pickup signature, it is optional — leaving the pad blank still takes the item in.

Not for mail-in

A mail-in intake never shows the drop-off signature block — there is nobody at the counter to sign. See Mail-in repairs.

The signature PNG uploads inside the same request that creates the ticket, so one intake covering several devices puts the same drop-off signature on every ticket it creates.

Turning it on and choosing the device

Repairs → Settings has a Pickup Signature section: an Ask for a signature picker with four options — At drop-off and pickup (the default), At pickup, At drop-off and Never — and a Signature device picker — Anything — mouse, touch screen or pen tablet or Pen tablet only (Wacom Intuos) — that applies to both moments. The pen-only setting ignores the mouse and touch, so the operator's mouse can't scribble on the pad while the customer is signing. Skipping the signature is always allowed and never required to close a job, whichever moments you have turned on.

Where the signature ends up

Both signature images are stored in the same private, tenant-scoped, store-gated storage as intake photos — served only through the authenticated /api/repair-photos route, never a public URL — alongside the typed name, the timestamp and the staff member whose PIN approved the move. The drop-off one shows on the ticket's Condition tab; the pickup one stays on the Post-Repair tab. The job card PDF prints a RECEIVED — SIGNED BY … block right after the ACL notices, and a COLLECTED — SIGNED BY … block after that; nothing prints for a moment that was never signed. When your Collected customer notification is switched on, that email still goes out with the signed job card PDF attached, unchanged from before — pickup only. See Customer notifications.

First signature wins

A ticket is only ever signed once. If it later moves Collected → Paid, that second move never replaces the signature already on record.

Both moments are covered now — drop-off and pickup. The condition checklist and intake photos remain the evidence of the device's state; the drop-off signature is the customer's acceptance of that record, not a replacement for it. See Device intake and photos.
