CommBank EFTPOS terminal
Ordering an integration-capable CommBank terminal, getting a Linkly Cloud account, and pairing it to the counter.
CommBank's terminal range is the one place where picking the wrong box is easy, because most of the family is called "Smart" something and they do not all integrate the same way. Start here rather than at the order form.
| CommBank terminal | What CommBank says about POS integration |
|---|---|
| Smart Integrated | Integrates with 500+ POS systems — and Linkly lists it as accredited |
| Essential Plus | Integrates with 750+ POS systems — and Linkly lists it as accredited |
| Smart | Integrates with 110+ POS systems, but through different technology — not the Linkly path |
| Smart Mini | No POS integration at all |
So the two to ask about are Smart Integrated and Essential Plus. A Smart or a Smart Mini is a fine terminal and a dead end for this purpose.
Linkly comes in two flavours — on-premises, where the terminal is cabled to a Windows PC running Linkly software, and cloud, where the terminal talks over the internet and nothing is installed at all. We are cloud. This matters at CommBank in particular: their own Smart Integrated page asks for a Windows 10 or later device with a spare USB-A port and a wired broadband connection, which is the on-premises arrangement. Ask CommBank explicitly for a terminal set up for Linkly Cloud, and say your POS installs nothing locally.
Ordering one
New applications go through 1800 730 554, which CommBank staffs around the clock. If you are already a CommBank merchant and want to swap a terminal or add integration to an existing merchant number, the existing-merchant line is 1800 230 177, also 24/7 — have your terminal ID and trading details ready before you dial.
Ask for the terminal by name, say the words Linkly Cloud, and ask them to set your merchant number up for it.
The Linkly Cloud account
CommBank issues the username and password that pairs the terminal. It is a separate request from ordering the hardware, and neither one implies the other, so make it plainly on the call: a production Linkly Cloud account for this merchant number. Everything else — settlement, your merchant service fee, your statements — is untouched and stays with CommBank.
Pairing and going live
- Put the PIN pad into pairing mode from its menu. It shows a short pair code. If it does not offer pairing, ring 1800 230 177 and ask for the terminal to be configured for Linkly Cloud — do not try to reconfigure it yourself.
- In Settings → Integrations → Bank EFTPOS via Linkly, add the terminal, choose its store, pick CommBank, and enter the username, password and pair code.
- Point a payment method at it in POS → Settings → Payments by setting that method's gateway to the bank terminal.
Day to day
The cashier picks the bank-terminal method and the PIN pad wakes with the amount; the sale is only recorded once CommBank approves it. Refunds go back through the terminal against the original transaction, so the cardholder has to be present. Settlement times, fees and your daily banking do not change — see Bank EFTPOS terminals for the whole flow and the troubleshooting table.
