NAB EFTPOS terminal

Ordering an integrated NAB terminal, getting a Linkly Cloud account from NAB, and pairing it to the counter.

NAB sells two EFTPOS terminals and only one of them can be driven from the till. The one you want is the NAB EFTPOS Integrated Terminal, which is an Ingenico Move 5000. Its stablemate, the NAB EFTPOS Standalone Terminal (a QT850), is the key-the-amount-in machine you are trying to get away from.

NAB terminalCan the till drive it?
NAB EFTPOS Integrated Terminal (Ingenico Move 5000)Yes — this is the one to order
NAB EFTPOS Standalone Terminal (QT850)No. NAB lists it without POS integration

NAB describes the integrated terminal as working with hundreds of Linkly-accredited point-of-sale systems, which is the road we come down.

Ordering one

Ring NAB's merchant sales line on 1300 338 767 (Monday to Friday, 8:00am–6:00pm AEST/AEDT) and ask for the NAB EFTPOS Integrated Terminal — by name, and say your point-of-sale software connects through Linkly. Naming both is what stops a standalone QT850 turning up instead; the two terminals are ordered differently and a standalone cannot be converted at the counter.

Ask NAB for a Linkly Cloud account

On the same call, ask NAB to set your merchant number up for Linkly Cloud and to issue you a production username and password. This is a separate thing from the terminal itself, and it is the step most easily forgotten — the terminal will arrive and work perfectly as a standalone machine without it, and you will only discover the gap when you try to pair.

The credentials are yours. We use the password once, at the moment of pairing, and never keep it.

Putting the Move 5000 into pairing mode

With the terminal charged and on the shop's network, open its menu and choose the pairing option; it will display a short pair code and wait. Have the suite open in front of you first, because the code does not last long.

If the terminal has no pairing option, or asks for a host address you have not been given, it has not been loaded with integration software. That is a job for NAB rather than something to guess at — ring NAB's 24/7 terminal support on 1300 369 852 and ask them to configure the Move 5000 for Linkly Cloud pairing.

Pairing it in the suite

  1. Open Settings → Integrations → Bank EFTPOS via Linkly (owners and admins only).
  2. Press Add a terminal, name it, choose its store, and pick NAB as the bank.
  3. Enter the username and password NAB gave you plus the pair code on the Move 5000's screen, and press Pair.
  4. Finish in POS → Settings → Payments by setting a payment method's gateway to the bank terminal. Without that last step nothing at the counter will ever wake it.

At the counter, and refunds

Ring the sale up as usual, pick the bank-terminal method, and the Move 5000 wakes with the amount on it. The sale posts when NAB approves it, so a decline never leaves a phantom sale behind. A refund is sent back to the same terminal against the original transaction, which means the customer needs to be at the counter with their card — see Bank EFTPOS terminals for the full detail, and Refunds and returns for how refunds work generally.

Anything about the terminal itself — it will not pair, it has dropped off the network, the software load looks wrong — is a NAB call, not a call to us. Anything about what the till does with an approved payment is ours.
