Tyro EFTPOS

Connecting a Tyro merchant account, pairing EFTPOS terminals and taking payments.

Tyro is the Australian EFTPOS option: pair your Tyro terminals to your stores, press pay in the POS, and the terminal wakes with the amount — tap, insert or swipe.

What you need from Tyro first

  • A Tyro merchant account, with your Merchant ID (MID) — it is on your Tyro welcome email and statements.
  • Each terminal's Terminal ID (TID) — shown on the terminal itself under its settings/about screen, or on the paperwork that came with it.

Connecting your Tyro account

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations → Tyro EFTPOS.
  2. Enter your Merchant ID and press connect. (An API key is only needed if we've given you one — most shops leave it blank.)

Pairing a terminal (the hardware steps)

  1. In the same panel, add a terminal: give it a name you recognise at the counter, choose its store, and enter its Terminal ID.
  2. On the Tyro terminal itself, open its menu and put it into pairing / integrated mode (on most Tyro units: Menu → Configuration → Integrated → Pair). The terminal must be on the same network as the computer running the POS.
  3. Back in the panel, press Pair. The panel talks to the terminal directly and shows progress messages; when it finishes, the row flips to paired.
  4. If pairing fails, the row shows the reason. The usual culprits: the terminal was not in pairing mode, a typo in the MID/TID, or the terminal is on a different network to the POS computer.

During a sale

Choose the Tyro payment method at the counter and the terminal wakes with the amount. The POS shows the terminal's progress and tells you the outcome — approved sales post automatically, and a declined or cancelled payment returns you to the payment screen to try another method. The sale is only recorded once the terminal approves, so a declined card never leaves a phantom sale behind.

Unpairing or replacing a device

Revoke on a terminal row disconnects it; pair the replacement with its own Terminal ID. Disconnecting Tyro entirely revokes every paired terminal at once.
